Ever wonder what failing hard-drives sound like ?
"Here's a list of 35 different hard-drives including audio clips of the strange noises they make as they fail. There's also some great pieces on each of the included hard-drive manufacturers & common failings of their drives. This list is compiled by a data recovery company, so I'm guessing they've heard it all when it comes to dead drives."

Whois Phishing
"There's a rather convincing phishing-type email floating around lately which targets domain owners, asking them to verify their contact information. The goal of the phishers is unclear, but they appear to be getting the email addresses they target from whois information. Read on to get a glimpse of the email & insight on possible motives."

Exchange Email issue smtp;550 5.6.0 Lone CR or LF in header
"Anyone with some expertise in MS Exchange 2003 (server is 2003 SBS) - I could use some help. I have two employees that work remotely. For over four years I've had them set up with mail forwarders to pass mail from their exchange accounts to their Roadrunner emails. All has worked fine with zero issues until Monday. Since then emails sent from within the company domain are forwarded to them just fine, but emails received from external sources appear to reach their accounts at our exchange server (I've verified by opening their accounts here that emails are being received at their domain accounts), however, instead of being forwarded to their Roadrunner accounts and NDR is being created and returned to the sender."

Errors opening media files
"I download alot of TV series that are aired overseas (before Australia gets them.. And i have quite an organised system on my computer.. Everything has its own folder.. For example.. All my Heroes season 3 go into one folder, which is on my desktop until i have all the episodes, But, when i try to open the folder i get the "Windows Explorer had to close because of an unexpected error" message.. and then explorer restarts. It happens to my Californication folder, and some other movie folders or whatnot that i have.. And also, my Media player doesnt want to play these files either, it has to "Close" so i end up using my VLC player for all movies. So i start thinking its something with the media files.. But my music works fine in Media player.. So, im not sure what the problem could be.."

404 Errors Cause a Penalty?
"I have a site with many pages that are regularly updated. Often a page needs to be replaced with entirely new content because the old content expired. In this case, the title, content and URL all need to change. Would having regular 404 errors from expired pages that have been removed cause a penalty with Google for the pagerank on the site?"

Wikipedia Moves to Ubuntu
"In a few months, Wikipedia will finish a major transformation by moving from a combination of versions of Red Hat products to Ubuntu Linux Version 8.04 on all 400 of its servers that support the Web site. The move to all-Ubuntu was primarily done with the goal of 'making our own administration and maintenance simpler,' [Brion Vibber] said. 'We decided that we want to standardize on something.'"

Featured Tutorial: Multi-Column Layout Using CSS Float
For this tutorial, we're targeting a layout that has three columns of content with spaces at the top and bottom for a header and footer. The page will be a fixed width and will also be centered in the browser's display area (the figure to your left).
We'll begin with an XHTML page structure in its most simple form. In the <head> of our document, we'll point to an external CSS file.
Once upon a time, web developers used the HTML element <table> to layout content columns. This practice is now recognized as cumbersome and not very semantic.
These days, instead of using <table>, we use the <div> element as a container for content. Once you get the hang of it, using <div> becomes very liberating and greatly reduces the amount of markup needed to layout a page.
This is an intermediate level tutorial that discusses one method of multi-column page layout. It assumes the reader has a good knowledge and understanding of HTML and CSS.
