XML vs other languages
"Is there any point to learning XML, if Im already getting good with php/sql? Im also getting great with JavaScript (and jQuery), so should I just learn JSON and leave XML alone? I do not know enough about the benefits or functionality of each language to figure this out. Is there any reason I should not just learn all of it? (JSON, php/sql, XML) Or would this be a waste of time? If I could make good use of all of them, I would prefer to learn them all."

drop down menu only works on index and nothing else
"I am on the clock with this but working with this template and the drop down list is not working with anything apart from the index. I am trying to debug the situation but cannot seam to track down the issue. www. Zday. Com. Au on the index the 2nd menu item drops and then after going through the link there is no drop down active anymore. Really need some help on this one."

Anyone else playing with Arduino?
"What started as playing with my sprinklers has turned into using an Arduino Mega with an Ethernet "shield" as a full fledged home automation system in the works. Lol Im using the Arduino Megas digital pins to turn on relays for things like sprinklers, bathroom "fart fans", garage door opener, landscape lighting, etc."

Backing up to the cloud
"With all of the recent problems Ive been having with my NAS and hard drives Ive been considering backing my data up to "the cloud". Which cloud, Im not sure. Do any of you do this? Currently a full backup of mine runs just under 35GB. Even internally, it takes about 6hours to complete so Im not sure how long it might take running one to the intertubes will take. Ideas are most welcome."

Google Checkout to be discontinued
"Google announced a few days ago that Google Checkout for merchants will be retired as they transition to using Google Wallet only. This means that for those of you who use Google Checkout you have until November 20, 2013 to transition to a different solution, or disable that option for a checkout option."

The new XBOX Reveal in thirty minutes
"For those of you who have the XBOX 360, the next generation of XBOX is about to be revealed in approximately thirty minutes. It will be interesting to see what comes next, these days I mainly use my XBOX 360 as an entertainment device for watching Netflix, HBO Go, or playing DVD movies. "Something that I have been wondering on is Im about to make a small supermicro server with the WD red drives and I was going to put in 3 3tb. The question is if I could add more drives with out effecting the data on the drives but increase the over all storage. I was looking at a raid5 or raid6 setup."

"Ive been reading up on this Tor network. It almost reminds me of the BitCoin network in a way. But besides the point. What are yaws idea of pros and cons of the Tor Network. pop ups
"I was trying to make a "thank you" popup window with JavaScript that executes when a form submits to a php file. It was such a hassle and when I finally got it work, aspects of it still did not work the way I wanted, and I realized I could just make a fixed position, invisible div that becomes visible when the submit button is pressed. Is there any reason I should not do this? Proper CSS can make it look just like a popup window."

"I keep getting this when I try to log into my bank to do online banking. "Login session has expired! Please try again".. It worked good 3 days ago but now I cannot get passed this screen. What could have happened? I rebooted computer a few times and does not help. Internet Explorer 8"

Ubuntu PHP files
"Im able to change the php files in a text editor, but I think sometimes it will be better access to do it in ubuntu terminal. So Im using nano index. Php to alter the file, but when I try to save it, I get a message saying [ Error writing index. Php: Permission denied ]. Anyone know how to fix this? Or maybe its not possible to change php files in the terminal? Im not sure what the problem is."

"I am wondering if there is a way to lock say xp into only a web browser. For instance boot up computer. Automaticaly login and opens up say IE and thats it. It will not let you go to anywhere else on the computer. Just for browsing.. I am possible open to linux."

new idea for my website
"Hello, I have this website www dot tamarawobben dot nl And for years I tried to make it work like this. When a user chooses a year and month , he will see all the articles on that month. But because some months have a lot of articles I paginate them. But because some articles are very big and some articles are very small I decided on every month and page how many articles are on that page. I tried to use several cms like wordpress , textpattern and now Symphony cms."

How to code this ?
"Hello I need to make a cash register but I do not know how to do it. I was thinking about to make it in loop but I do not know how to make its. I need to input a barcode of product each barcode has price an stock level. In the loop I will input a barcode all the time untile I input "Done" and then it will out put me total price and show me how mach left in the stok. Abd I was thinking do make it in dicturiany but I do not know how to make the program take out the price."

JavaScript in IE
"Im testing my cross-browser compatibility in IE8. Its a 3 part calculator and all of the functions work except for the third part. I do not want to post the code, because its a lot, but I will if its necessary. First I just wanted to find out what are some common reasons that a JS function will work perfectly in FireFox and not work in IE8."

Locate Images on My Site
"I remember years ago TechTV used to promote some tools for web developers. One I remember was a tool that would pull all the images from a site. However, my company recently got hit with a small fee for using a licensed image without permission. Were currently looking to see how this one slipped by but in the end were doing a full review of all our sites and I wanted something that could possibly pull the URL and image for easy review rather than needing to go page by page."

Editing html with Notepad- encoding question
"Hi, When I edit html with notepad, it saves files as ANSI by default. I searched web for this subject and most answers seem to say thats the right way to save html file. However, when I take my saved file to a different PC and open it with notepad, I often see extra dots where carriage return should be. I wonder why? Could it be due to different versions of notepad? Anyway, if my html has UTF-8 encoding, should not I save the html file as UTF8 rather than ANSI after editing it with notepad? Thanks."

Sold my sites - still getting adsense money
"Hi guys, Im confused. I owned 3 wordpress sites that had adsense on. I sold them all about a year ago. Since then all the adsense ads have been removed or replaced by the new webmasters. But, I still get £7 to £15 per month via adsense. However, the analytics in adsense is not showing me where the click are coming from. Im not complaining, but Id like to know what the hell is going on."

Odd reboot
"Here is something that I have never seen. I have a clients computer and its a old compaq vista machine. Its fully updated and virus free. But once you shut it down and hit the power button to start it back up the power light will not come on or the video but the fans and everything else starts up. In order to get it to fully boot up I have to either pull the power plug and then plug it back in or hit the switch on the powersupply and turn it back on again befor it works."

"The tutorials do not explain quite enough. Im able to connect to my hosting database, but I am unable to do the next couple of examples. The tutorials offer nothing for trouble shooting. Also, on a slightly different topic, Im curious why these functions execute, if they are only written as "if" conditions?"

Hosting problem
"I had a website that a lost few days ago probably because the subscription for the hosting expired. The company who created my website hosted it but I am not sure where and these guys are not in business anymore. I tried several website to check without luck. I purchased the domain from Omnis and currently I directed it to another website that I have, which is with weebly I appreciate any help I can get in locating my hosting company to recover my other website. Thank you."
