Ozzu Forum Update

This is just some information to let everyone know that Ozzu will be transitioning over to the PHPBB3 system probably within the next two to four weeks. I have already done a test run on the time requirement to convert the database from phpbb2 to phpbb3 and it will take approximately 8 hours. Right before phpbb3 goes live on ozzu the entire forum will be locked for approximately 8-12 hours beforehand to prevent people from losing any new posts they make. The forum will still be completely viewable, just posting will be disabled. I will give an update to this thread shortly before the board goes into lockdown.

With the update there is some important information I should address. Unfortunately due to the time requirement the smartDark theme will not be coming with this transition. Phpbb3 uses a completely new template system and I have already worked weeks on converting the current light theme. There will be a dark version of the light theme coming with this update (which will have similiar colors to smartDark), since that only requires CSS changes. In the future all additional themes will most likely only be CSS variations, and some may be derived from the recent Ozzu CSS competition that was held here.

There will be some changes to the structure of ozzu, for the most part everything will be very similiar. Regular members will have some new features, and eventually we will be introducing a premium member system of which will have even more new features. In addition to that some important fixes will be made, especially concerning the [php] tag and how it inserts spaces and formats code incorrectly. With this transition that should be finally fixed.

I may at some point be looking for a few beta testers of the new system to find any problems I have overlooked.

The reasons that convinced me to actually upgrade was that performance wise PHPBB3 seems much better, and was actually made with large message boards in mind -- and also the increased number of features out of the box.

I personally find subforums to be an unnecessary pain in the behind. The board setup is fine the way it is, in my opinion.
