How to remove unwanted programs on Imac

I have an Imac with a 500 GB hardrive, it is showing me that i only have 10 GB free. I use it for editing video for a local access channel. I do not save any movies to the hardrive, and have deleted all videos and pictures i do not need. There are some programs i do not use. Is there anyway of freeing up some room? Photo Lab, Garage Band, etc, or is there some thing i am missing when deleting old videos?

well basicly you trash everything, it is not like windows.

empty the trash too. :)
