OS9.2/Dell 3000CN isue

my school has a few iMac desktops that have OS 9.2, ive been charged with connecting them to one of the problematic Dell 3000CN color laser printers. the problem is we could never get them to network properley. we have it connected to the art teachers desktop (an optiplex GX270) and it is set to shared. is it possable to let the iMac workstations to notice the printer on the optiplex. and if so can someone walk me through the process since im a reletave mac noob. 
Linux is user friendly... It's just selective about who its friends are.
