I'm honestly not sure if what I'm looking to be done is actually doable in flash or swish, but I figured it was worth giving a try :)

Basically, what I'm looking for, is a spinning earth-like globe which spins counter-clockwise (from above), and it has kind of a (bright green, thin-lined - thinner than my image below) grid that swings around from the back and following a path, then stops just after the half-way point, flashes rapidly 3 times and sits there for 5 seconds. Then, it randomly moves left and right along its visible (to the viewer) path, stopping for a second or two occasionally, doing the 3 flashes, then just goes on doing that.

No sound, no interactivity, no clicking, nothing.

This (somewhat crude, heh) image basically demonstrates the view of the planet, the spinning direction of the planet, and the path & direction of the grid. The face of the grid must face the exact center of the planet, so that the plane of the sphere, essentially runs parallel to the point of the planet it's directly over.

Image

If any of you watch Stargate SG-1, watch the episode entitled "2010" (It's in season 4) where they're attempting to detect solar flares with an alien computer, and you'll have a pretty good idea what I'm attempting to do (only I need a planet instead of the sun, and I need it from the "camera angle" in the image above).

The regular price on the hosting account is $99.95/yr paid 12 months up-front. We are running this competition in several locations, and the winner will be announced here, as well as those other locations, whomever that winner ends up being. If we end up with a winning entry above & beyond our expectations, we may be able to increase space & bandwidth on the price.

The winner can either use this prize themselves, or pass it along to a client if required. The winner will receive 1 hosting account to use as they wish (as long as it's legal) :)

The Hosting Package contains...
  • 500Meg Storage Space
  • 10Gig/mo Bandwidth
  • Telnet/SSH Access
  • 99.5% Uptime Guarantee
  • Unlimited POP3 Accounts

Nope, this is for a new site that is being launched. There doesn't need to be any text, names or logos on the image :)

I'm confused, in the image you show the box coming in from the side, but in the text you say you want it swinging back and forth.

also, is there a filesize limit you want this project under?

It initially comes in from the back and stops where it is in the gif above. It sits there for 5 seconds or so (it can be a lil less, but no more).

After that time, it moves along its path in one direction or another, remaining in side all the time, randomly stopping for a couple of seconds.

alright, but if the world is spinning do you want it to
still stay focused over the point it orginaly stoped on? (follows the spin or the globe)
or do you want it to stop while the world spins below it?
or do you want the world to stop when it stops?

Oops, I didn't mention the file size? hehe.

Maximum of 450x200, ideally under 50KB. If it's more than 50KB, it should have a preloader the first time a user sees it.

The vision I had in my mind is that the world should look realistic. It doesn't have to be Earth, as I said, just earth-like (blue water, green land, few clouds, etc.)

If anybody wants to see the scene from Stargate that I mentioned above, I have a 6 or 7 second clip I can send you to demonstrate the general idea of what I had in mind. Just pop me a PM with your E-Mail address, and I'll send it you.

I am thinking about doing it, though I have little experience with flash. I may as well enter. I don't care about the prize that much but I am sure I would learn a whole lot. Is there a deadline? Might take me a lil bit
