I can't remember the last time I used a font tag. I'm not certain I could go back to html 3.2 and code the old way. However, as an alternative suggestion for a competition I would suggest this.

Construct a page (not a site - just a page) without tables, but appearing to have tables. This can be done with CSS. Navigation links would be allowed but they can be dead links. HTML should be either HTML 4.0+ or XHTML 1.0+ (strict or transitional is fine) . Rollovers on hypertext links should be done with CSS vs javascript.

Here's an example of a friend's "table-less" page:
http://www.dotcomjunkies.com/members/m/MP_Tech_Resource/forum/

It's a rough idea for a competition, and I'm not certain I'll even have the time available to participate. If someone likes this idea and wants to add their thoughts to it, go for it.

I have an idea, but it will probably need the approval of Bigwebmaster.

I realize that the OZZU logo competition has been going on for a long time (since April 13 - to be specific) -- and I'll be truthful, I haven't bothered to look at them all since I just don't want to click all the links on 9 pages of posts to do so.

I'm curious if, instead of a "photo" competition we include the entries already made, and then allow new entries to be made during the competition period (another 3 weeks). Perhaps the current and future entries could be compiled into a gallery page with the Submitter's handle included so they can be viewed by all in just a 1 or 2 (maybe 3 page gallery). Number the entries and set up the poll by the entry number.

Then voters could view the gallery and select the logo in the poll via the entry number. (That would save a lot of time entering poll information in the voting post).

Winner gets the said number of points you decide -- PLUS -- IF Bigwebmaster agrees that he likes the members winning logo and chooses to use it - they get additional bonus points of Bigwebmaster's choosing.

It's just a suggestion. I don't know how long Bigwebmaster wants to let that one go on...but it might spark an initiative to get a new logo for the place.

(Only down-side to this is Bigwebmaster would have to temporarily up the allowed number of options for the voting poll to accomadate you for the significant number of entries. Then reset it after the competition is over. (I'll check on my own board...but I don't think there's a limit to how many entires can be set on a poll -- the only restriction is what the admin places on the number).

-----------------------------------------

One other suggestion that might be used for sporadic competitions or perhaps even all of them is for the entries to be submitted annonymously to you via your PM -- then again create a gallery for the entry -- this time with entry numbers only. That keeps all entries annonymous and voters would be voting based on the work itself and not tempted to vote on the author. I've seen this done before and it is a good method.

In both cases above it's a matter of whether you or Bigwebmaster or another wants to set up a "gallery" page for entries...It would make it easier to see them all at once than have to scroll through pages of posts.

Let me know what you think.

I think your gallery idea would be a good idea for future competitions, where we can have a sperate post for the entries, where users can vote, and another post for the competiton as its going on. I don't see why this suggestion needs to take the places of the photo contest however, and I will still be starting the photo contest the 31st regardless.

(not much else I can say as this a lot of your post is for BWM)

OK then... I rebooted and came back *lol...No prob with any of that. Make it a second competition if BWM agrees, but my questions would be to define the "photo" contest you're planning just slightly more. In other words...are you talking "film" media, or "digital" media or both for the photos...and any restrictions to editing.

I know you plan to announce the "topic" Monday...but I might be able to offer a few more ideas beforehand if I knew better what your thoughts were for this one. Remember..."topic" is one thing and "medium" and "methods" are another. Just a suggestion to be sure to remember those specifics when you define the final contest rules. (I'm guessing you alreay know that -- but thought I'd throw it in in case you overlooked something)

*lol -- OK...to shorten that even more...just a good picture? Cool...

This is not an entry...but a friend took this picture yesterday and I thought this one could win a competition somewhere as is...don't worry -- it's not mine...but it is a pretty one for sure:

It might just be a good idea to move that whole competition to this forum. As far as a deadline I am not totally sure I like that because the whole goal of the competition is to get a better looking logo at the top, that I like.

I do like the idea of having two parts to the competition though. One where everyone rates their favorite logos, and then two the one I finally choose. We could award points for the winners of each.

Bigwebmaster...I see you understood my post. Then part 3, so-to-speak of the competition is that if you don't like the winning logo in part 2 is that we start a part 3 competition and all the old ones will be nixed...and we start fresh....

You have to admit...that one has been going on a loooooong time!

Regardless...winner get's b_heyers participation points and if there is no bonus (and you don't like any of them)...we go to the next round..
