Could you please give exact definitions of the terms 'HTML', 'CSS', and 'images'? Specifically, what file formats are permissible for images? Must the HTML and CSS conform to some W3C recommendation, and if so, which recommendations do we have to choose from? (If not, then what should we use to define what is meant by 'HTML' and 'CSS'?)

Hiya Sam,

I've put these limits on so its 'back to basics' somewhat, so no php, flash etc. Not sure how else to describe HTML (.htm or .html) and CSS. (.css)

Images can be anything that shows up on a website so they are going to be .png, .gif or .jpg

Hope that helps!

If we take the first design competition as a model, Sam, I believe we were more interested in (and people voted for) the overall final product, and not so much the code that was used to get there. So basically, HTML or XHTML would satisfy the code requirements, And I suppose it would only make sense to use CSS2 if you intend to use CSS (Using CSS isn't required). Some people wrote their code to validate to the doctype they chose, where others didn't. I would say work towards having the best "final product".

If you can do it with CSS only, yes, but not likely since DHTML assumes javascript needs to be used.

Nice going so far to both of you. I would encourage you to work on that cross-compatibility issue, tho. That's an important piece of design! As I see a great similarity between this and the first competition, I'll be sitting this one out if a decent turnout shows. I might throw something together towards the end to encourage more participation if needed, but hopefully the submittals will be numerous. Good luck to all!
I'd love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.
