I do have UAC enabled. I'm back at my apartment and everything magically works again.

I'll try disabling it if it stops working again when I'm at my moms. Also might be worth noting that the programs will run in safe mode as well.

well, it's going to be a 64 bit capable processor so any 64 bit OS should be able to handle the hardware just fine..

Linux is great for many things. Gaming is not one of them. exactly. lol So if you really wanna play games like Crysis for example it'd be better to setup a dualboot system with Windows. Note that it's not as easy as it sounds now, cause when installing Windows it will overwrite the master boot reco...

Can I still do what I do now using Linux? (simple html, css, php web design and internet surfing?) Ubuntu (or linux in general) is a great match for those sorts of things - you can even set up your own web server to use a test/staging server. The only issue I run into is I need to be able to run IE...

i used to be alright with suse. novell has managed to create something visually appealing, but as for things working out of the box ubuntu has them trumped.
