Hello

I've bought Flex template in november 2010 but I missed the opportunity to use it at that time.

I tried to implement it on a 1.7.3 joomla version but it seems that some menu parameters are not comptatible with this 1.5 version.

My question is : is there an upgrade ? Could I have it for free ? or would I have to pay something ?

Thanks

Hello,

You are correct in the fact that this template was developed for Joomla 1.5.0. On any of our templates once they are released into our system the template designer does not do any updates to any of their past designs. What that means is that if you want to use this with Joomla 1.7.3 you will either have to upgrade the template yourself, or hire us at an additional charge to do that for you.

If you want to try and do it yourself, you will likely want to try to upgrade the template to 1.6.x first, and then 1.7.x. There are many discussions around the Internet with people attempted to do so that you may want to read. This first link is from Joomla itself and it explains the process of what you need to do to upgrade a template from 1.5.x to 1.6.x:

http://docs.joomla.org/Migrating_from_Joomla_1.5_to_Joomla_2.5

It is very detailed and should be of great help to you if you try. Here are some additional links for once you have upgraded to 1.6.x:

http://docs.joomla.org/Upgrading_from_1.6.4_or_earlier
http://docs.joomla.org/Upgrading_1.6.5_to_1.7

Looks like there are a few threads with people talking about it as well such as this one:

http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?t=649737

I hope this helps!

Thanks for such a detailed response. I indeed tried -- and succeeded ! -- in the upgrading of joomla 1.5 to 1.73, but Flex has a menu parameter that has to be set to "List" and this parameter doesn't exist anymore in 1.7.3.

As I'm not clever enough to put my hands inside the code I therefore can't upgrade the template myself...

(exerpt from the readme pdf :

3.Changing Menu Style
The top menu style should be set to “List”. In order to change the style please, go to Extensions • Module Manager and there please, choose Top Menu. In the opened window please, find the
parameters field and set the Menu Style property to “List”. Make sure that menu class suffix is set to '-nav'. The main menu style should be set to “List”. To change the style please, go to Extensions • Module Manager and there please, choose Main Menu. In the opened window find please, the parameters field and set the Menu Style property to “List”.)

Anyway, can you tell me how much it would cost to hire you ?

Thanks

Hello!

So from the sounds of it you may be almost there right? Sounds like you are just having a few bugs due to the fact the List parameter does not exist anymore in 1.7.3. Without going in and looking, it's hard to guess exactly how long it would take us to finish this and get it working correctly for you. We charge $150/hr and if you indeed have most of it upgraded and we just need to find a work-around for that issue that you explained, I am guessing probably around two hours to get in there and try and find a solution for you. So that would be $300 that you would need to pay in advance.

If that is too much for your budget, you may also want to try posting this job on a freelance website as you can explain your situation and you will get multiple developers bidding on your project. Often times you can get things fixed for much cheaper that route since multiple developers are competing for your work, but many customers don't like having to go through that process. I just wanted to provide you an alternative as well.

If you are interested in having us help you please let me know and I will e-mail you further details.

Thanks!

Thanks again !

As you'll probably understand, it's not worth it to spend that amount of money on this project (I will probably invest in another template instead), but I'll first investigate that bidding process that I didn't know of before.

Good evening from France !

I completely understand, that is why I like to provide alternatives in case we are not within your budget. If you choose to just get a different template, we do have Joomla 1.7 templates, so you might want to check those out.

Have a great evening!
