Any idea why my animated gif not working when it's on a web server? If I double click on the .shtml file to open the file then the animated .gif file works just fine. I can see the animation. However, if I access through the web then it's not working.

Any suggestion is appreciated.

I used Ulead animated gif to create the .gif animation. How do I attach it here? I don't see the attachment box.

you'd have to upload it to a webserver, then post a link that pointed there.

like so... http://www.chriscarney.com/cleanMe/dm.jpg

I'm using IE 6.0 and I also tried with Netscape 7.1 and Mozilla. Do you think it could be the SpyBot or ZoneAlarm that is preventing the browser from displaying the animation? I just switched to another computer that does not have those two software installed and the animation works.

I don't know about the others, but in IE you can turn off gif animations, and only display one single image.

...and "i doubt it" on the spybot, etc.

Same with netscape and Mozilla. But Mozilla 1.5 had problems displaying gifs on my linux box, 1.7a works fine though.

"Play animations in web" is checked so what could be the problem.

Here's something new. I uninstalled both Spybot and ZoneAlarm and the animation works. The question is, which one is it? ZoneAlarm or SpyBot that's causing the problem?

The Zone Alarm is the cause - you need to go into Privacy - Main - Ad Blocking and turn ads on -- High and medium stop all animation

It's Zone Alarm. I had the same problem. Zone Alarm can also mess up the appearance of websites.

:!:

Zone Alarm is blocking your animated Gif.

Go to the ZA control Panel, on "Privacy", set "Ad Blocking" to "off"

You will be able to see your animated gif.

I had the same issue and it was a setting in my Zone Alarm Pro. Under Privacy I had to turn off the Add Blocking. This will allow the animated .gif files to work.

I came to this ancient thread because I have an animated gif which a friend of mine only sees the first frame of. He uses Zone Alarm and that was noted at the end of this thread, but never reported if that was the problem. At any rate, the gif can be seen at

http://www.concordplayers.org/audition.html

It should start off with a blank frame, but I put in the final frame for 1/100 of a second to start because if you only see one frame, it should be that. But for those who see the animation, that first quick frame is annoying.

I don't know if anyone will come to this thread after a year of silence. I may need to repost. We'll see..
