um Photoshop is the name of a program so I'm not sure what you mean by "good photoshop program"?

Adobe Photoshop there is only one. Are you asking who are its competitors?

Adobe Photoshop == industry standard. I'm not a fan of PSP, so my vote clearly goes to Adobe.

Going to echo what UNFLUX just said.

Photoshop is the best. I use Photoshop 7.0 to do some of my image editing and to be honest its quite easy to use. Wouldnt go wrong with that!

I like Ulead PhotoImpact 10 myself. Very user friendly and almost has as many features to work with too.

Only major downfall is that I really want to learn bump mapping but can't find anything good for referencing on it for Impact

Does PhotoImpact have camera RAW support? Some equivalent to actions/scripting?

It's been a while since I used PhotoImpact, and it was kinda basic and limited-functionality back then.

LOL, all programs are free. "Seek and you shall find". I would love to explain but I think it's against the rules here, plus it's wrong.

Anyway, I'm putting in a vote for Photoshop CS as an excellent choice when browsing for image editing software.[/quote]

Adobe Photoshop CS2 is the most recent version of Photoshop and depending on your educational status, you may be able to get it for right around $350. Not bad at all compared to PSP Pro. I am thirding Unflux's post.

PS: If you don't have the money to blow, go get a copy of Photoshop Elements 3.0...you won't be let down. It is basically a limited down version of Photoshop CS2...it has all the basic tools that you will need to start learning!

Everyone should know that Adobe is in its prime. You can't replace it with any other. Check out the newest trial of adobe photoshop cs2. It's amazing.
