Cool; well done!

Did you model all those pieces yourself? Maybe the knights could have a little more detail, but other than that they all look good to me.

You should apply some textures and do a nicely lit render with shadows. Maybe the chess board could be slightly reflective, showing reflections of the pieces.

This is brilliant for someone who's new at this. Well done! I look forward to seeing it textured and placed in a scene.

I used 3dStudioMax.

The problem is, my pc runs the program, it just takes ages to render,(i tried to do a render, and it took over 2 hours and it was the same thing with just some light, nothing else!) so i usually leave the picture as it is ;)

Well, max has an amazing renderer, but you can also export your scene and import it into a renderer that perhaps isn't such a resource hog? I mean, the rendering will of course consume resources, but if you can cut down on the overhead of the application itself, it might help. Alternatively, start the render and go to sleep. =]

You dont need a water cooling system, do you? 'Cause I leave my computer on all night and sleep like a baby. My lil ol G4 is a little slow compared to todays standards so I too do most of my rendering in my sleep.
