Color picker q's in PS

I have ps cs2, and when i go to choose the color i need for paint/brush/fill or any of those that use the "color picker" i am limited to a grayscale of color...anyone know what i clicked to engage this feature?

Example:

I will enter the hex code for a green i needed, it will display it in the "Picked" color box, but when i hit enter/accept it, it goes to a shade of gray instead. Any ideas?

Go into the "Image" option mouse over "Mode" and click on "RGB". At the moment it will most likely be set at Grayscale.
