all i do for this is create a text layer stating my watermark and stick on
the layer above the pic itself. make sense? I don't think there's any real
science to it, and there's probably 1,000,000 ways to do it.

OK -- I admit, I probably shouldn't be posting anything here (since I'm somewhat a novice at graphics), but I always thought a watermark was "invisible" and was easily done by selecting the "watermark" option (in photoshop at least - I've never played with the other proggie -- At least that's the way I always did it.)

Does "emboss"="embed"? Maybe that's where I'm confused. :?:

If you want something visible, then like UNFLUX said -- just layer it and put it on there any of the million-some-odd ways there is to do it.

not if you save without layers, or flatten the image. Just make a layer with the watermark you want, set down the oppacity or set to multiply then flatten image and save.

If you want it to be visible, just follow b_heyer's advice. Flattening the image should prevent the "layer" from being edited. However, as stated before an actual "watermark" is invisible (essentially). Here's Digimarc's glossary:
http://www.digimarc.com/watermarking/glossary.asp

The remainder of the site is self explanatory.
