the first one is fantastic. the rest of the layout looks fantastic as well. good thing you're not competing....

I mean.... mostly it's about participating, and the challenge, and the whatnot - but a little bit it is about having a chance to win

#1 gets my vote. I'm all for simple and clean, which it is both. It's also flexible enough to get some details and sprucing if you really wanted to. Though I like the second one, it's very well done, it makes me thinking of a gaming site more than a professional setting.
