Hi. I've been into websites for a while now but always the thing that's bringing me down is the logo design and actual construction. I'd like to know, how do the pros do it? One of the best examples would be the Ozzu dragon. How was it made? Was it entirely done in Photoshop? If it was, how? How'd you get the curves just right? What do you do to get that perfect logo?!!!!! I've been thinking about it and do some people use modelers?

I'd suggest using vector images if you want a smooth logo, Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Fireworks (and even Adobe Photoshop now) have some great Vector tools. I would assume the dragon was created the same way, but we got it from a stock image source I do believe. The text was then probably added in photoshop with some layer effects for the red border.

I learned through trial and error, but I suppose if you have the time and money there are some classes you could take to teach you the basics.

Vector images? Would that be where you plot points and then turn them this way and that to get the curve? How do you control that? It seems impossible to me. Does using Photoshop 5.5 hinder me at all?

I don't think photoshop 5.5 had vector compatibilities, but atleast you know what I am talking about.

You can still create decent images in 5.5, I used it for about three months, you just wont have the ability to use vectors is all.

the original image was a simple outline drawing, done in
illustrator. I imported it into photoshop and worked "my magic"
from there.

I'm sorry, but I can't sit here and explain all that was done to
create that or any logo. You should explore the net via some
google searches and go through a ton of tutorials to get yourself
aquainted and started doing graphics with pshop.
Furthermore, I would recommend upgrading your version of
photoshop to at least v7...they're up to 8 now anyway!

Good luck with it. It can be a long process, but if you work hard
it can be learned quickly. Enjoy. :)
