Editing logo with gradient background

Hi guys, how do i edit a pre-made logo which has text and a gradient background, to insert my own text and keep the same gradient colours as the background.

I take it you do not have the source logo? If you had the source logo it would be a matter of probably turning off that layer. If you only have the a .jpg or .gif version then it would take more skill to remove the gradient. With Adobe Photoshop CS5 they have some nice tools that can assist in performing those sort of tasks.

I would first recommend trying to get the source logo image if possible, that would be by far the easiest way. Typically a source image could be in one of the following formats:

.ai
.eps
.psd
.cdr
