Well I finally went on the extremely short search for a Linux Vector editor, and found SodiPodi. I've fallen in love, needless to say, and turned out my first piece as soon as I got familiar with the tools and commands.

This image was traced and colored with SodiPodi:

The image I traced from is here:

Please give me any comments and suggestions, as I'd love to learn some more technique. Thanks :)

1. It's free
2. Windows crashed way to often for me to get work accomplished, I can leave my linux box on for over two weeks with out a reboot.

Neither had I till about 2 days ago. I believe they have a WIN32 version as well, but I think you have illustrator so you're all set.

Thanks for the comments guys :)

very nice b_heyer :D

and as you work with vector a little more, you'll get the shading down to a science. I think that's the hardest part to look good, with both the color choices and amounts.

good stuff

Nah it's cool, part of my post was to expose the program a little more, not like it was too hard to search for if you were stuck in a bind and needed a "linux vector editor" ;). But yea, it's a great program and almost up to par with Illustrator.

I want to try F4L some time, (flash for linux), it's in it's alpha stages, but I think that it should still be fairly usable, for simple animations if anything else.

Thanks unflux, I agree the shading is quite difficult, any suggestions with the shading on this image?

it really depends on the style, but for yours since it's more "flat" it looks good. Gradients add depth, but that's what I see in this. Coloring is the hardest part for skintones.
