I....................got a problem.

A friend of mine sent me a couple of pictures yesterday...all of them are under the JPEG format. I can see them on my hotmail account. When I save them on my desktop, I can't open them. I always use Windows Picture and Fax Viewer to see any picture on my computer.

The pictures are from a digital camera 5.0 mega pixel.
I just don't get it...I tried to open them on everything (photoshop, etc)...it just won't open.

Here what it says:

and here's the picture...

I'm guessing two things...she lives in Europe, maybe they have the same thing as DVD do, with the region code...or the pictures are encrypted. (but then that wouldn't make sense cuz I was able to see them on hotmail...)

How can I fix this ??

Thanks a bunch everybody...I hope I'm in the right forum.

Can you post a link to one of the images?

Also, as far as I know, there is no "region coding" for images, so that most likely isn't an issue. Probably some corruption happened when you saved them.

Well, I tried downloading PICT0015.JPG and it is indeed corrupt. It doesn't even look like a jpeg when I view it in a hex editor. I think something is wrong with yahoo's download script. I can't make heads or tails of the file.

For reference, here is what the first few bytes of a jpeg should look like:

notice the "ÿØÿà..JFIF". That's the jpeg header.

and here's what yours look like:

No jpeg header.

I think you mentioned you can view them in yahoo, but not when you download them. That probably means the images are fine on the server, but yahoo's download script is doing something to them that is causing them turn into garbage. I would email them and ask about it, because something is definitely wrong.
