not sure how maya works

in a different anim package it had a F-Curve

you can still set keyframes, but each object will have a line on the F-curve graph.

does maya have something similare?

not exactly sure what youre talking about, but i know the graph editor has curves that you can alter in order to get the animation running smoothy. In any case.i have no idea what the F Curve is.

I don't know if plugins for older versions of Maya are compatible with v6.5+, but there is a freeware plugin/MEL script that will help you do what you want. It's called I.S. Light Effects Studio C.D. 2.0.
