i simply adore the photo itself -- truly no other reason. :)

i noticed that too geekette! I'm going to do a photo manip with
it and make it's eye my logo...we'll see how it goes.

btw -- my 3yo daughter has affectionately named the gecko "Snake"

Yep -- I liked that picture as soon as I saw it. I'm hoping that dM puts Axe in the getting to know you hot seat soon. I'd be very interested in hearing his story. I think his photos are great but I don't think I'd want to be as close to those snakes as he gets.

I think your idea to do the eye thing for your logo is awesome UNFLUX. Hope you can do it. I'll be looking for it.

here's 1 example of something did with the similar idea. It's a bit more
artsy than a true manip, but the result turned out good anyway.

I'll attempt to do the same kind of thing....stay tuned!

I've always loved that photo since I first took it, and it's actually one of only maybe a dozen photos I took of that species (Viper Geckos). They're just a VERY photogenic animal if you can get real close to them.

They get to be about 4" long as adults (including the tail), and mine were a little over 2" long when that photo was taken - the hatchlings are only about 1" long total, SO adorable.

Considering this particular image was taken on an old Sony Mavica FD-83, with a 1024x768 (less than a megapixel) maximum image size, I was very impressed at the detail it gave. With the more recent Mavicas (I also have a CD-250), they seem to have sacrificed the quality of the macro mode's auto-focus.

I no longer have any viper geckos, but I do a lot of the reptile shows and have a lot of contacts in the reptile industry, so I can get hold of pretty much anything I need for photographic purposes. So, I'll get some more shots of these lil guys, and some of the Uroplatus (Leaf-Tailed) geckos soon enough.

The geckos always seem to have the most unique looks of all the various lizards, and are great photo subjects.
