It's like anything I guess.. the more you use it, the better you get. The best thing you can do is try new stuff. Think of something you want to do and then google for some tutorials on it.

It's not a case of using it 24/7, it's a case of consitent use over a considerable period of time. I've only been using photoshop during my spare time over the last couple of years and i would hardly call myself a "wiz".

I bought a book and looked at it a little bit. Most of the learning was done using online tutorials. They can be fun if you want to learn to use them.

This topic sticked at the top of this forum has links to quite a few good tutorial sites...

You can also check out the turorials on Ozzu written by some of our members. This section is quite small at the moment due to it being a recently added section to Ozzu..

I'v been using Photoshop since v4 maybe? And I use it frequently, but I have never bought a book, only tutorials and fiddling around with the menus, and tools.
