I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Could you be more specific as to what the problem is?

I'm trying to make a pattern background & i opened up a 200X200 pixel canvas. i used a custom shape tool from the ones that come with photoshop and i followed a tutorial successfully. I zoomed in on it so i can see better & it was crystal clear. The next day I go to do it again & this time when I go zoom in on my custom shape image it looks pixelated. I thought custom shapes using the custom shape tool were vector art? Shouldn't this NOT be happening? That's why I wonder if I have to change a setting or something. Maybe I need to undo something i must accidentally did.

Yes, custom shapes should remain as vector. Did you save your document as a PSD (which will retain vectors), or did you export to a bitmap-only format such as jpg/gif (which won't)?

From the help section of Photoshop:

Quote:
To save a shape or path as a custom shape:

1. In the Paths palette, select a path--either a vector mask for a shape layer, a work path, or a saved path.
2. Choose Edit > Define Custom Shape, and enter a name for the new custom shape in the Shape Name dialog box. The new shape appears in the Shape pop-up palette.
3. To save the new custom shape as part of a new library, select Save Shapes from the pop-up palette menu. You can also use the Preset Manager to manage libraries of custom shapes. For more information, see Managing libraries with the Preset Manager (Photoshop).
