anime animation? most programs like that are specifically made for the production studios who create the animations. even fi you could find a commercial program, it's most likely going to run you around 700 dollars average. to just simply make anime drawings, adobe photoshop is an expensive, but well worth it solution. as far as drawing and coloring, id suggest looking into buying a wacom tablet (http://www.wacom.com) because they give you ultimate control and precision with digital artwork.

best of luck.

There are number of tools to use. I will list just a few. From 2d to 3d apps. 2d the number one choice is photoshop. mirage is also a good choise to use.You can use dogwaffel at http://www.squirreldome.com/ more afordable than photoshop. On the 3d level blender comes to mind. It cost nothing and it has some nice toon shaders. Animation Master cost $300 at http://www.hash.com is also used to make anime. XSI over at http://www.softimage.com as well as motionbuilder over at http://www.alias.com are used to make anime. Hope this helps

I just got the Maya 6.0 program for my Mac. Recently I had the chance to actually work with it on an associates computer. There is not a better program out for doing anything other than Maya 6.5. If you want to see some examples of what Maya can do I would suchest going to http://www.raph.com. Now I know Maya is a 3D program but anime looks great in 3D. Here's an example (Program 3D Max): http://raph.com/3dartists/artgallery/6347.jpg

Why don't you take a look at Synfig. I wrote a little more about it here... http://learningisfun.whenimnotsleeping.com/index.php/2008/01/28/free-vector-animation-software/

I haven't used Synfig but it seem to be made for professional cartoon animation and hey its free.

take a look at Toonboom, very popular tool in the world of commercial animation. you'll be surprised to the amount of series that use it!

also, it depends on how graphical you want to work, Toonboom in nature has a very flat look because it's vector based... but you know it's your task to tweak it ;)

That does make a lot of sense to me ... because from illustrator you can pull the file directly into AfterEffects and use camera angles etc to animate the anime ...
