What format are you using (jpg, png, gif, ico, bmp, other?), and see if it supports alpha blending or another transparancy filter...
1 + 1 = 10 + 1 = 11 + 11 = 110

as far as I know it is a simple as setting one of the colours to be the colour that signifies transparency and then make that colour the background image.

What application you using to create your icon?

If you are working in VS.NET then you canimport GIF's with transparent backgrounds

yes... if you start from scratch, you can set the background to transparent... but otherwise, if it is a single solid color (distinct from any other color in the icon itself), you can set it to transparent using office applications... hope this helps...

I tried either .png and .gif so that my icons and other images have a transparent background if I wanted to, so long from the start I have a transparent background when I start a new document in Photoshop. :)
