I recently brought a font file online (ttf) and I can't figure out how to install it in Illustator. I read the help section and it said to place the file into the already open doc or open a new doc and place it in there. If I can remember, the last time I placed the new font into the program's font folder on my hard drive. Do I need to do the same thing again? The type is going to be used as a headliners in my homepage that is going to be using HTML and possibly Flash. I want my site to have a techno look and I feel this is the type. If I save each headline as a gif or png, is this a way I can achieve the showing of the font without the viewer having to download the font or compromising homepage download time?

You need to put the ttf file in:

Yes, you'll need to save headlines as graphics.

Start>Settings>Control Panel>Fonts>File>Install new font

Your computer will search for the font file in whichever directory you ask it to and if it sees it then you will be able to install it. Pretty straight forward.
