Hi, I have just designed a letterhead in Illustrator due to printing purposes

the design is of course in CMYK but i am a little confused

the actual logo of the company I have used as a watermark on the document design but the way in which i have done it is by redrawing and adding a gradient consisting of shades of grey from black

I have then set transparency to 6% and 3% respectively

now the question is whether there is some specific technique in creating watermarks on illustrator or is the above method good enough?

Should be fine, although you may wish to discuss the minimum dot percentage your printer would like you to use (eg. 3% black).
