Oh man, this thing is absolutely HUGE!

Here it is on my N90s.

Gonna be taking some nice long shots with this one. With the D100 essentially having a built-in 1.5x teleconverter, this'll give me 112.5mm-450mm of range.

Now I just need to get myself some extension tubes for those macro shots :D

Yeah, was a great deal.. It retailed for about $400 or so I believe before it was discontinued. It's extremely heavy (weighs about 2lbs - nearly double the weight of its 70-300mm successor). the 70-300mm AF D-ED lens costs about $350 new, but from what I've been told, this is a much better built and better quality lens.

First subjects I think are going to be birds, or that pesky Black Racer that keeps eluding me in the front yard :D

hehe, there's one young one in our front yard... one of last year's hatchlings. Its mother was the front yard resident for about a decade up until last year. This year I've not seen her.

I've not been able to catch this lil guy yet to see what sex it is, but I saw him a couple of days ago eating an anole. I ran back inside to grab the camera, but when I came back out he'd already gone...

I thought all hope was lost, then I saw his tail hanging down out of a palm tree. I looked up and there he was, coiled around the tree..

Image

I SLOWLY slipped closer, and managed to snap a few more...

I managed to get this one before he slithered along to the end of the branch, dropped onto the grass, then scurried off under a thick bush...

Image

That may look like a close-up photo, but it's actually a tiny crop of a huge (3008x2000 - 6.1MP) photo.

These were taken with my Nikon 28-80mm AF-G Lens. Now I've got the 75-300mm lens, I can get some nice big shots, without getting so close that I spook him.

I'm just waiting for the subjects to be cooperative ;)

The birds around the house have been pains in the butt the last few days, never hanging around where they should be, lol. So, I've not had a chance to really let loose with it yet.

Hopefully within the next couple of weeks I should be planning a day at Myakka State Park. A Friend of mine has a Canon DSLR, and I keep trying to convince him to switch to Nikon. He wants to see how his camera stands up side-by-side against the D100 (although, I'd feel more confident if I had a D2H, lol).
