I use JASC Paint Shop Pro 7. Heh, I don't recommend it if you are planning to be a serious graphics designer, though. I bought it because it is cheap and it does everything that I need (which isn't much). :-p

I use three main graphics editors:
Photoshop 6
Paint Shop Pro 5 & 7

I try not to limit myself to just using a single program, different tasks often need different tools.

While I grant Paint Shop Pro is not quite on a par with PS, it does provide some quality effects/tools for the less demanding work at a considerably reduced cost.

Paint Shop Pro 8 can be purchased from:
http://www.jasc.com/products/paintshoppro/

The manufacturer seems to be among the lowest prices around, too...."Best"Buy is selling it for $99

Cheers...

yup, Photoshop. I can't imagine what task you would need to perform that you couldn't do in a stand alone industry standard like Photoshop.

hmmmmmm....

For many new to web design, or working on a low budget, the question is less what Paint Shop Pro could do that PS couldn't, it's more a question of "...what can I do with the $500 I will save by heading over to jasc, instead of Adobe...."

For those attempting to decide if they have the desire or skills to succeed at web design or computer generated graphics, it's handy having access to less expensive tools such as Paint Shop Pro.

I mean...when the idea of getting a design business is on your mind, who wants to shell out $550+ for a graphics Porsche like PS, when you can get a Corvette for $90 and still get a decent job done, then...when the way is clear, go fer it...varoooom!! :D

Besides, for those times when I need to describe a button style, show off an effect or explain how a client site will look, I can get a reasonable job done in the amount of time it takes PS 6 to open a new doc, and set the background and foreground colors.

Just an opinion, eh...

Not to mention compiling the fonts*lol...Why am I always oposite from you? You'd think I'd learn from you...especially where graphics are involved!

I did this test layout for a plumber using Paint Shop Pro...not great work, but it took considerably less time than it would have taken me in PS 6:

in the end you're right of course. The tool that you feel most comfortable with, and the one that get's the job done is the right one to use.

btw: I'm 35 - not as 'long in the tooth' as ATNO, but not much of a spring chicken either. ;) ahahahahah

I'm a decade older than you, so my teeth are just a tad longer :D

ATNO is around 55 or so if this failing memory serves

Cheers, eh...
