But then I assume its not common practice to redirect to a different url (e.g. redirect from sitea.com/page_x.html to adifferentsi...

Does anyone know of a way to redirect a user instantly from a page to another, without Google penalizing it for what it is? i.e. Can I try to hide what I'm doing somehow from Google or other search spiders by somehow running the code in a different file somewhere that it has no access to?

I would not recommend Google Adwords unless you keep track of all the statistics and you can monitor which search phrases convert more customers into buyers. After that, the answer is easy, just look at your stats and see if its paying off. Doesn't hurt to try.

You can post a star with a code similar to this into your html file:

Although right now I don't know the actual number required (off the top of my head, I think it is 7000-something, not that it helps).

It won't display properly all the time in all browsers and search results.

That's pretty interesting. Do you have any percentages about how the traffic is distributed amongst the top 10 positions?

Too right. I would say that my programming style relies on 'hacks'. I write quick code to do the trick, though I wouldn't say its pretty.

Getting on the first page is what counts, but getting no.1 will definately get you the most traffic.

It's probably fine as long as you don't expect repeat visitors, but that means you need to get up the search rankings on your own in the first place --- and what are they supposed to search for, if you want them to search for something again? I say you probably won't get repeat visitors, because if ...

Although...I don't really see many sites popping up high in the search rankings that have long url's in site/directory/after/directory

Hi, I'm currently playing with PHP using it to do more complex stuff, but am having trouble configuring the Apache server so that it doesn't timeout after 30 seconds. I've got Apache 2.0 installed as a localhost on my machine (i.e., I access it with http://localhost). From what I understand, I need ...
