When I make a link, it has a black border around it by default, how do I get rid of the border and make it the same color as the background?

example:

look at the thumbs, they all have black borders around them

the image has round corners and my site has a black background.
when I put the picture on the page there are white corners on the image.

how do I make the corners disapear without going back and editing in a picture program?
