first of all, you should have a working knowledge of flash before you
even begin to work with actionscript. You may be able to code all day
long, but if you can't apply it to the flash application appropriately, it will
never work for you.

If you are familiar with flash already, then the 3 best online resources to
get started IMO are -

1. http://www.kirupa.com
2. http://www.flashkit.com
3. http://www.actionscript.org

enjoy, and good luck. it's fun! :D

yeah do what unflux says, if you dont know anything about flash, ur dead in the water when it comes to a/s. although, ive noticed that most people who knew javascript beforehand, often never had a problem learning a/s. maybe the 2 codes are similar, i dont see a difference :P
good luck ;)

I knew Javascript before Actionscript and yes, it was a big help. The languages are incredibly similar (although if you ask me AS is easier than JS), they declare vars the same, the functions and prototypes are written the same, they even have the same commands like charAt(), stringFromCharCode(), Math.sin, Math.cos (etc etc), and well, too many others to type here.

And if it helps, I started out using the tutorials that come with Flash, they are a great tool for getting the basics of Flash down. And that is definitely important.

hmm, i too used the flash tuts included, the only thing i HATE the most is the fact that the tuts dont start from scratch, they use sample movies. If they started from scratch they would be so much more helpful. And yeah, a/s is wayyy easier than j/s :)

LOL, JS really isn't that hard (although it seems like it), the hardest part about it is cross browser coding. And that when you have an error you don't have a little output window that tells you where and why...lol.
