I have four text buttons and four pages with all four buttons on each page for navigation at the top of the page. When I click a button to go to another page, I want the button to stay in the down state so I know what page I'm on. When I click another page button I want it to do the same and have the previous button go back to it's Up state..I want to keep my buttons as Buttons and not put them in a Movie Clip...Please Help!....

You can make the buttons in a CSS... Like image or color... Link buttons. I'll post a example script here tomorrow on how to do that. Too lazy right now.

I personally think that as you sound like you are creating a simple set of buttons an easy way of doing it would be just to replace the button with a graphic that looks like it is one the down state however their are countless other ways of doing it like creating buttons as movie clips or making the buttons in CSS as mentioned above.
