Flash Mx 2004 Bug: Unexpected file format

I downloaded the source file .fla from Flapi and wanted to see if I can change to make it look better with my Flash MX 2004 but surprise an error message shown up: Unexpected file format.

I tried to update the software, but still it's useless.

I Googled everywhere; problem exists among many Flash MX 2004 users, but seems they didn't mention a word about solving the problem nor is there a patch available for download.

Who's encountering the same issue? Do you have any methods?

the problem that you're encountering is that the file you're downloading was saved from flash 8 and it's not compatible with flash MX 2004 (Flash 7). In order for it to work, it will need to be loaded into flash 8, then re-saved for flash 7. Note: if the .fla is using any flash 8 specific features, it won't work in flash 7 anyway.

Thanks so much, ScienceofSpock for your reply. I searched in the forums and they said this problem only occurs in cracked copies, which I think isn't true since mine was a legitimate copy.

The souce file was from somebody else, so I can't request much, after struggling and googling a while, my friend offered me an upgrade and I'm now settled in Flash 8!

Hope I'll learn more about the program and master it......
