I've downloaded several Flash movies off the net, (by going through my temporary directory.) I have Flash MX 2004. Can I edit the video with the .swf file only? Or do I need a .fla file? Thanks.

You need to create your own FLA's or download them from someone who is offering them for you to use. There are tons of FLA's, legally available.
