Hi I was looking at some templates lately (yeah I hate them too) and one of them had this Flash transition where it looks like a piece of paper is twisting and turning and flipping around. I was wondering if anyone knows a tutorial for this? Or is this not all Flash but a video of some sort integrated into Flash.

Thanks

Sounds like you are referring to page flip. Just type that into search engines and you'll have all kinds of results.

When I use what you suggested for a search, I get more of a book turning the pages. I want something where it looks like a piece of paper is actually rotating on a X and Y axis. It even folds up partially.

Here is somewhat of an example:

here's another: http://www.templatemonster.com/flash-te ... 17832.html

Its really just a bunch of math to mess with the height of a movieclip to simulate 3D. Here's a tutorial...

Yeah this is a lot closer than anything else I've seen. Seems like I'm not the only one looking for this. I really want to use it, I'd even be willing to by a component if I could find one.

Thanks for the other link! But none of them is exactly what I'm talking about. I found a thread on this some where else and it was said that the effect is done with adobe after effects. And that it had to be rendered using something else besides Flash.

Okay I went here: http://www.flashden.net/search?term=animated+paper

looks like this is really just an animation. So I guess if I have some free time I can try and duplicate it. But for $3.00 I might as well buy it. I just like learning stuff the hard way if possible. Builds character :)

haha yeah thats true learning does build character :-)

If thats how you feel, the effect can be created within flash using some math and the bitMapData class. You notice that on the example you gave, the content didn't go with the animation, it loaded in later. Thats because that flip was just created with a bunch of images rendered out of After Effects and then they added the text at the end of the sequence.

If your looking for tutorials try searching for 3d flip + actionscript. You'll get a lot of things that will give you a basis to modify for the motion you want.

Sounds like I should start building components in my free time...

I agree with graphixboy, the effect is definatly built in After Effects and exported probably as a PNG sequence. However if you wish to keep the file size low you could trace bitmap and turn the sequence into fills. Remember the file size is not always reduced if you use a trace bitmap on complex images however as this is just a white piece of paper it should reduce the file size substantially.

In more advanced version of this effect people seem to be rendering the effect using motion blur in after effects. I would expect that this version of the effect cannot be traced bitmapped as the blur contains some alpha quality but if the effect is fairly quick a png sequence will still load fine and if the effect is contained inside a movie clip repeated use of the effect will not 'bloat' the file size.

Hope that helps anyone who is looking. Good luck and please post links to any of your completed effects so we can all see the results.
