I'm sad to see this.

Quote:
Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs said the iPhone won't be using Adobe Systems' Inc.'s popular Flash media player any time soon, saying the technology doesn't meet his company's performance standards for video.

To achieve higher video quality and longer battery life on mobile devices, YouTube has begun encoding their videos in the advanced H.264 format, and iPhone will be the first mobile device to use the H.264-encoded videos. Over 10,000 videos will be available on June 29, and YouTube will be adding more each week until their full catalog of videos is available in the H.264 format this fall.

its funny that Jobs main argument for not supporting flash on the iPhone was the lack of H.264 support.

However, it seems to me that there's other issues for Apple than simply h.264... http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/hd_video_flash_player.html

Steve Jobs has never been a fan of Flash. It doesn't mean it won't be on the iPhone though. Adobe is willing to (and I believe trying to) make the Flash Lite plugin that was created for portable electronic devices work on the iPhone, they need Apples partnership though, which is the rough part. But with as many faithful Mac users that also use Adobe products (let's face it, how many designers are mac users!?) it just makes sense for Apple not to turn their backs on them IMO.

I don't know about it making sense for Apple to cut Adobe any slack on Flash.

Apple is calling all the shots with the iPhone & after what happened back in the Microsoft days I don't think Jobs is going to lose that "My way, or the highway" mentality that is the iPhone untill something one-ups it.
