Hi,

I have a flash movie.

I am using a simple button which my users can press to open a new window

Code: [ Select ]
on (release) {
    getURL("http://www.clarkeprint.co.uk/demo.htm", "_blank", "GET");
}
  1. on (release) {
  2.     getURL("http://www.clarkeprint.co.uk/demo.htm", "_blank", "GET");
  3. }

This works fine on most computers but I recently came across one laptop that would not open this link, giving me some text in the bottom left hand corner of the web browser that said:

Pop ups not allowed

I wouldnt have classed this as a pop up, so why the message?

Is there a way round this

Regards,

Tim

I assume its the combination of using "GET" and _blank do you need to pass any variables to the url your calling? If not dump the GET command and that might make it a bit happier.

for example getURL("url",_blank);

Used an actionscript for the same thing basically after folks would email from the last site I did, pop up blockers stopped the window. Not sure of a work around other then to use another script to embed text into the flash itself.

getURL(url, "_blank") has always worked for me. They must have one massive pop-up blocker. Especially since this doesn't classify as a pop-up. If you don't need the "GET" (which I'm assuming you don't, you're linking to an htm file) then I say remove it then try.

If that doesn't work. I don't know what to tell you, I've never heard of this problem. That is just ridiculous.

Hi

Thanks for the replies

Removing the GET worked fine. The mystery laptop can now follow this link

Cheers all

Tim
