in flash you can pick to have the text shows as html (summot like that)
where you can pick it to be "selected" as well
does that mean that search engines can pick it up?
just a thought

unfortunately, no. The text is embedded in the flash movie, so it's still
not able to be picked up by robots. Maybe that's something they've
fixed or at least tried to work out for v2004. we'll see...

Well when you publish your Flash file so it exports a .html file Flash will include with the embed code a set of invisible tags ( <!-- words --> ) that contain the text within textboxes in your movie (if the text isn't loaded dynamically). This is what search engines go by for indexing flash sites if you decide to leave that in there, otherwise I think they go by how many other sites link to you or something, not entirely sure how that all works :P

Unfortunately many of the search engines like Google barely give any importance to words that are in comment tags, and for good reason, spamming. That is one of the major drawbacks right now of sites in 100% Flash, there is not much content to index. Hopefully in the future this changes because there are many great sites that deserve to be indexed that are in almost 100% Flash. Either Macromedia needs to devise a way for the content to be indexed, or search engines need to figure out how to parse through .swf files. However I do not think the second way of parsing through .swf files is possible as far as reading text, because I believe right now it is just a bunch of objects in the file. If Macromedia would keep all text in a Flash file as text, or at least tag the text along with the objects, it might make it possible for search engines to index.

based on what lostinbeta said, and now bigweb, wouldn't it make more
sense to use a splash page before a full flash site then? then you could
add some words and meta tags (and on the flash page too) to get some
notice from SE's.

I'm sure this is not an original idea, just thinking out loud...
