As far as tutorials go, do you know if AIR has the ability to save JPEG files from BitmapData objects and how to go about that ?

To the best of my knowledge you can use AS2, AS3 or Javascript to create AIR apps so I think it would depend on what your using as the base language. I know that AS3 can interact with the file system pretty well but AS2 is pretty much limited to "open". I couldn't tell you if its possible with js but my gut feeling would be no.

Here's pretty good example of how it works but I'll keep that in mind for a tutorial since it seems really useful.

That's great.
If you look at the very next artical in that link it leads to this,
http://blog.everythingflex.com/2008/02/25/create-images-with-air-and-jpegencoder/.

The AIRAliases.js does have a reference to file.filesystem.filestream but I'm not seeing any references to the JPEGEncoder class. My first impression is that I'd have to implement JPEGEncoder myself if I did it with JS, though I haven't taken more than a glance into the files and references.
Strong with this one, the sudo is.

Nice find. I'll have to play with that since some of those functions are a pain in the arse with AS3 alone.

Hi Guys, my first post here.

I have been doing some research to redesign my own site and found a site for a Advertising company based here in Australia - I reckon this sites rocks as a Flash site.

Here is how to get to the section I'm interested in...

0. http://www.21-19.com
1. play some pong while waiting for the first page loader
2. press [click to enter] when loaded
3. scroll to the the very bottom of the page till you see the [Dennis the Hand] campaign
4. click on the image and wait for the second pre-loader
5. a list named [VIEW] appears to the left of the now loaded movieclip
6. scroll down and click on [PLAY]
7. yet another movieclip loads with embedded flash video of the ad [funny stuff by the way]

Now I know that the movieclip DENNIS THE HAND on the main stage is simply calling another movieclip with embedded video on top of it, but the thing is that the entire background of the video movieclip goes opaque and it fills the entire screen - I have noticed that a few sites are doing this these days with their video and even image content (fully expanding opaque background over the previous movie.

If any can help me understanding what the common name for this technique is so I can Google it - or even some tips on going about doing myself that would be great

Thanks heaps
Pat
