Post 3+ Months Ago

A client came to me want to create a monthly e-magazine. She had a few requirements, the main two were that the pages actually turned and the other was that the pages could be updated very easily. I found this template: http://www.flashden.net/files/15235/index.html and seriously considering using it. Only thing is I have no XML skills. Is it easy to learn? Can someone suggest a tutor for dummies that might help? Thanks!

Believe or not I started reading a little of this last week. It just didn't seem basic enough or maybe I'm not as smart as I've thought all these years :) Thanks!

I think your making it harder than it is... :-) XML is really just a tag based higherarchy where the tags can be anything
Code: [ Select ]
<Animals>
   <Mammals>
      <name>Cat</name>
      <name>Dog</name>
      <name>Monkey</name>
      <name>Goat</name>
   </Mammals>
</Animals>
  1. <Animals>
  2.    <Mammals>
  3.       <name>Cat</name>
  4.       <name>Dog</name>
  5.       <name>Monkey</name>
  6.       <name>Goat</name>
  7.    </Mammals>
  8. </Animals>

With that in mind HTML is really just XML that your browser associates certain actions to the node names. If your browser didn't know that the "p" tag means paragraph it would just be analogous xml.

Bottom line is you can format that any way that makes sense to your program and it will work. Here's a great tutorial about how to use XML and flash together http://www.kirupa.com/web/xml/index.htm

thanks. I actually picked up "XML FOR Dummies" . The client really likes the magazine template, so I am going to try and crank it out. I told her I could do it and I'm sure I can with the proper reference material and all the fine people of this board :)
