FlvPlayBack skin doesn't control video

Anyone ever had an instance where the default flv player skins don't control the video?. The skin's display but interaction doesn't affect the playing video. I had to force the skin to hide at some points so I changed the flvplayback.skin = ""; to be blank when the video hides and then replace the skin name when the player is shown. Is there some way to re associate the skin file with the player after it has been removed?
