most of what is used in that gallery can be found as Open Source at sites
like http://www.flashkit.com. It's not really anything special, and the site has
been discussed here on ozzu a number of times.

Great photography, but the flashwork is average.

The coding in a gallery such as that for anatol is quite advanced. Right off the bat I can see that you have to have previous knowledge of...

1) Elastic Motion
2) The ever popular "infinite menu" effect
3) Masking
4) Motion in AS as well as checking position/sizing to initiate actions at the correct time.

Chances are you will not find an open source gallery like this... but you would have to find individual open source files of each effect and try and meld them together the best you can. Frankly it would just be easier to code it yourself from scratch... since most open source files are scripted differently (every coder has their own methods) and can get quite complicated to combine them.

You can find tutorials on Elasticity, Masking, and the "Infinite Menu" effect at http://www.kirupa.com .

But basically what this all comes down to is.... how much do you know of Flash already? You are going to need to crawl before you walk, walk before you run, and run before you jump off that cliff. If you are a beginner in Flash, a gallery like this is not something you should attempt yet.

There's like 87 Billion+ ways to create photo galleries... some easier than others, but it all depends on what you are capable of pulling off. Varying methods, varying complications.

You may want to check out the flashkit.com link UNFLUX posted, that is a source of a ton of open source files, i'm sure you can find plenty of open source gallery files there. And from there you can figure out what would work best for you.

You will at least have to know the basics of Flash to be able to create the easiet of galleries. This includes...

1) What Symbols are and how to use them.
2) How do you assign actions to Button symbols.
3) What actions will you need to know to show an image (are you getURL()-ing to it or are you loading it in via loadMovie()?)

etc, etc.

expensive? He's offering a personal creation to the public for a
nominal fee. I don't think the prices for that are all that
outrageous at all. I think they're quite fair for the work done,
and what you get with the script. It's a fantastic piece of work
all the way around.

As an actionscripter, I have to agree with UNFLUX on this one. The amount of time/energy/effort instilled in this gallery is amazing. This has obviously been created to be as dynamic as possible for easier installation/use for you. I don't think it's overpriced at all.

Especially considering the author of this has released many great open source files at http://www.mjau-mjau.com/ . So it's not like this person is just being greedy. They offer open source for a few things, and this one project took enough work to feel they had a right to charge for it, and I say more power to them :)
