willstein - please don't send people from here to other boards. it does
nothing to help them or any future person looking for that particular answer.
Besides, if they go there and find answers, what is the liklihood that
they return here when they can go elsewhere??

soaked - to answer your question, it is really difficult and advanced
to try and create a message board in flash. You will need a deep
knowledge of actionscrip, php, and mysql to accomplish what you want.
If you aren't familiar with any of these, then you are trying to swim
before even touching the water.

As far as a tutorial, i'm sure a google search would produce some results
for you, but I'm pretty sure there aren't any.

On another level, what makes you think someone is just going to produce
for you all this work? I doubt anyone would be willing to spend the time
and effort to create this for you, and then teach you how to do it for free.

You might want to spend some time learning more about flash mx before
venturing off into something like this.

Soaked, perhaps if you posted in greater detail what your action plan is and specific areas you are having problems with, people would be able to help you. It is friendly here I've found, but the information you requested was broad enough to fill several volumes.

no, you don't need a database if you're talking about small amounts of
data. You will also require MX version to do so. You basically set up
a flat file within flash to house the data, but it's not fast or reliable for
large amounts of data, especially something like a message board.

i'm pretty sure there's a few available open sourse shoutbox scripts
for flash already written out there if you do a google search. I've seen
a few. ;)

Example: http://www.phpforflash.com/

Things you have to have considerate knowledge of:

1) Server-Side Actionscripting (sending and retreiving information from an outside source such as a mySQL database)
2) PHP/mySQL

Is it easy: No, unless you are really good at PHP and Server Side Flash.
