How can I, with ActionScript, look in a folder and see how many say mp3 files are ? (a variable 'n' will get the value of the number of mp3 files).

Mmm, a nice question.
Could this be done via php, or is there something easier!?

I've done a quick google search and have found quite some replies to this topic!
Check it out..

Flash on its own can't really interact with the file system (there are some exceptions in flash 8 but probably not what you want)

Your best bet is to use some serverside language like php/asp etc to read the directory and pass flash the variable

You can open a file prompt that works alot like an HTML type="file" input with Flash 8 Pro. You can check filetypes & filesize before uploading with it though.

After reading this thread, i'm under the impression that AS3 can talk directly to a server somehow, I'm kinda lost really. :scratchhead:

it must be that AS3 send data from user computer directly to the server, you don't think that adobe invented a way to transmit data trough telepathy :D
