I was wondering if I have 4 buttons that play four separate movies. how can I make a button close out the last movie before starting its own, so that the buttons do not have to be used in any particular order?
I don't want the movies to just disappear on the clicking of another button I would like them to have some kind of transition off. If this makes no sense let me know and i'll try to make it more clear.

I'm not certain that this is what you want, but I'll give it a shot...

The "four seperate movies" are external .swfs, let's say.
There's an empty movieclip ("empty", let's say) that they load into.

When you release a button, it goes to a keyframe (so you've got frames labelled after buttons 1,2,3, and 4) containing the following situation.

1) Before loading or unloading anything, the empty mc's alpha tweens off to zero.
2)
Code: [ Select ]
unloadMovie("empty");
loadMovie"1.swf","empty");
  1. unloadMovie("empty");
  2. loadMovie"1.swf","empty");

3) fade the empty mc back in (or just set it's alpha back up to 100% in the same or next frame as the new movie loads) then throw in a stop(); action before the next button's labelled frame.

Do that for each of the four buttons and you've got a fade out and can load whatever you want into the same empty mc.

Work for ya?
Don't know if that's what you meant by 'close out,' but a fade's a pretty smooth close to something... and it allows you to use just one emptymc.[/code]
