Mask refuses to work

I made a mc for a buttons overstate, where the text is masked:
1. Top layer; mask
2. Text
It refuses to work, when i preview it in the panel window i can see it, the other odd thing is when i play the whole movie, the button isnt a button; no hand appears, just some text input thingy.
Why wont the mask work. I just motion tweened it across the text.

embed the font. text under a mask won't show unless it's embedded
