Yeah. Write your function:

Code: [ Select ]
getData = function()
{
textVar = "My new text";

}
  1. getData = function()
  2. {
  3. textVar = "My new text";
  4. }

*I would use loadVar to load up you new data and set it to a variable.

Then create a button that calls the function when pressed.

easy!!!

Some data components can be made to update themselves at regular intervals...also.

Don't forget that data loaded into Flash gets cached. You can workaround this via query strings, so the browser thinks you are loading in a new file.

Example:
Code: [ Select ]
//prototype to manipulate string
String.prototype.noCache = function(){
    return (_url.substr(0,4) != "file") ? this + "?"+new Date().getTime() : this;
}
// useage
myLoadVarsObject.load(("myMovie.txt").noCache() );
  1. //prototype to manipulate string
  2. String.prototype.noCache = function(){
  3.     return (_url.substr(0,4) != "file") ? this + "?"+new Date().getTime() : this;
  4. }
  5. // useage
  6. myLoadVarsObject.load(("myMovie.txt").noCache() );

As far as cache goes, how does this work if you are running the SWF file without a browser window? I haven't worked much with cache examples etc. . . All knowledge will be handy.

Thanks in advance.

You mean if you are running a projector (.exe) file?

If so, then the data doesn't get cached, that's a process done by a browser.
