I am still new to flash, since Oct and I have been doing pretty well at it so far. http://www.tsigold.com. I am still working on it and it should be cleaned up by june. I just need to understand a basic action in flash and here it goes. You create a movie, then on the timeline frames I add my frame names per item and put a stop action on each item I want it to stop to, as my site is now. I have no problems in this area. My problem I need to understand is when you create a new swf and you want to pull that information to your stage when called or button pushed. How do you step by step communicate with the other swf as if it were on you same timeline. I hop this makes sense

Create yourself a new empty mc [Insert > Symbol > MovieClip] and give it the name holderClip, press enter.

Next open your stage Library [Ctrl+L], find your empty mc and drag+drop to where you want the top left corner of you externaly loaded mc to be. Give your mc the instance name container.

Next create yourself a button of some sort and place the following code in the actions panel:

Code: [ Select ]
on(release) {
_root.container.loadMovie("externalMovie.swf");
}
  1. on(release) {
  2. _root.container.loadMovie("externalMovie.swf");
  3. }

That loads your movie.

If you want to control that external movie from your main movie, reference to is using the following syntax:

Code: [ Select ]
_root.container._doSometing;

Code: [ Select ]
on(release) {
getURL("path_to_file/URL", "_blank"); //or _self
}
  1. on(release) {
  2. getURL("path_to_file/URL", "_blank"); //or _self
  3. }

You may want to look into the loadMovie function if your looking to load in external .swf files.
